Christmas House 2019

This holiday season, I had the honor of decorating the home of one of my dearest friends. My friend’s father passed away two years ago right around Christmas, so this time of year has been quite bittersweet for her. I wanted to make the home feel festive, warm, and nostalgic, to help comfort her and her family throughout this season.

My friend loves Montana, as did her father, Pops. I like my designs to tell a story, and I wanted these rooms to tell a story of Montana, the outdoors, and Pops. I also wanted the decorations to have a natural flow with the house, which is modern, neutral, and rustic.

As inspiration, I found this image (to the right) and worked from that.

I used simple greenery and incorporated wood garland and pinecones on some of the wreaths and staircase elements. To keep with the natural and modern look of the house, I chose some beige and silver velvet ribbon for bows. Everything was hung with 3M hooks, so the wreaths and staircase elements can be taken down and stored easily - 3M hooks are amazing.

I took a great hat that belonged to Pops, decorated it with greenery and berries, and hung it on the entryway mirror. As soon as you walk in the house, you see the hat on the mirror, giving it a sense of command. I surprised my friend with this and I think she loved it’s sentiment.

I used a cowhide from IKEA as the tree skirt. It was originally going to hang on the ladder next to the fireplace, but it worked so well as a decoration for the tree. Pillows are also from IKEA.

Simple, green wreaths on every lower-level window and door.

I was able to incorporate the stockings to their modern mantel.

The family uses their dining room table as their main table, and eating meals together is a regular occurance. I kept the table decor simple and practical, but made sure the buffet was stocked with holiday plates and tableware.

I kept the outside very simple, incorporating the wood garland with greenery and large wooden globes. All greenery and floral components are from Baisch and Skinner.

Below are more images of the rest of the details. I hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones!
